Three phase induction motor construction - Construction of Induction Motor

The three phase induction motor is the most widely popular used electrical motor. Almost 80% of the mechanical power used by industries is provided by three phase induction motors because of its simple and rugged construction, low cost, good operating characteristics, absence of commutator and good speed regulation.

In 3 phase induction motor the power is transferred from stator coil to rotor winding through induction. Any Induction motors even have 5 main elements specifically.

The rotor may be a rotating a part of induction motor. The rotor is connected to the mechanical load through the shaft.

The rotor of the 3 part induction motor are any classified as.
1.            Squirrel cage rotor.
2.            Slip ring rotor or wound rotor or phase wound rotor.

As its name indicates stator coil may be a stationary a part of induction motor. A stator coil winding is placed within the stator coil of induction motor and therefore the 3 phase supply is given to that.

In the 3 part induction motor frame is typically product of cast steel. The stator coil core is pressed directly into the frame. The 2 end shields housing the bearings are bolted to cast steel.
